1. look 译为：看，瞧。She looked at me and smiled. 她看了看我，笑了。
2. see 译为：看见，看到。The moment we saw the house, we knew we wanted to buy it. 看到房子的那一刻，我们就知道我们想把它买下来。
3. watch 译为：看，注视，观看，观察。They watched the bus disappear into the distance. 他们注视着公共汽车消失在远方。
我们来辨析一下 look，see 以及 watch 这三个词：watch 或 look at 可用来表示某人注意看某事物。一般来讲，watch 表示注视移动或变化的事物，look at 表示注视静止的事物：I ask him to look at the picture above his head. 我让他看他上方的画。He watched Black run down the stairs. 他看着布莱克跑下楼。see 表示由于眼睛接收到视觉图像而看到东西，表达此义时常用 can。I can see the fax here on the desk. 我能看见这边桌上的那份传真。
4. stare 译为: 盯着看，凝视，注视（尤指惊讶、害怕或思考时）。What are you staring at? 你在看什么？
5. gaze 译为：凝视，注视，盯着（尤指因为惊奇、羡慕或心不在焉）。She gazed at him in amazement. 她惊异地注视着他。
我们再来辨析一下动词 stare 和 gaze。它们都可以用来表示长时间地注视某物。stare at 常常用来表示因某物怪异或令人震惊而瞪着眼睛看，如：Various families came out and stared at us.家家户户都出来盯着我们看。gaze at 则常常用来表示因所见之物精彩或壮观而盯着看，如：A fresh-faced little girl gazes in wonder at the bright fairground lights. 一个脸蛋红扑扑的小女孩好奇地盯着游乐场里那些明亮的彩灯。
6. notice 译为：看到，注意到。I couldnt help noticing (that) she was wearing a wig. 我一眼就看出她戴着假发。
7. observe 译为：观察, 注视, 监视。The patients were observed over a period of several months. 这些病人被观察了数月之久。
8. glance 译为：瞥一眼，匆匆一看，扫视。I glanced up quickly to see who had come in. 我迅速抬头瞥了一眼看是谁进来了。
9. glare 译为：怒目而视。He didnt shout, he just glared at me silently. 他没有喊叫，只是默默地怒视着我。
